Those are great photos of what may be a front, colder maybe than the obvious cold coming towards you. In Australia we sometimes get huge banks of dust looking like this coming with dry north winds during summer. Maybe you got snow later from this?
You are right, some snow came with it. Interesting! Snow or dust (from the desert then?) – depends on where you live. 😀
