Basil will not grow in all weathers and soil natures, please do save red soil as a base below black organic soil and must have sun light for sure and soil must be wet and not much water saved in the pot, keep a jar wider for more fresh air circulations, its tropical plant and it grows very well in asian soil. Reminds me of a hot dry summer when my green thumb and I grew (well before it was trendy) sun dried tomatoes. If I would have had grape vines we probably would have had a bountiful, early batch of raisins. 🙂
